Just having a website isn't going to do much good if you aren't telling people about it. These seem like simple reminders, but it's amazing how many people forget these common customer touch points.
Content Is King
Don't rush your content preparation. Search engines rely on the words in your website to tell them what your site is about. Make sure to use your keywords often in your content. Don't try to cram too much information on a page. Spread content out into pages by topic. Then make sure to use headings on your pages to seperate out the sections of the page.
Keep Your Visitors In Mind
Just because you want to tell your website visitors something doesn't mean that they want to read it. So keep them in mind as you build your website. Don't assume they know something that is common place to you. But don't talk down to visitors either. If you're not good at writing content for your site hire a professional writer.
Do Your Research First
Don't assume that just because your competition is doing something that it is working for them. Do your research first by talking to your customers to find out what they would find useful about your website. Ask them how they would find your product or service online. What words would they use? Would they use Google or a professional directory? Use this information to target your web marketing strategy.
